Yes, I'm cheating a bit here — curvy things are covered in Chapter 9 — but I didn't want you to have to read about one command in two different places! When you insert the Field in Mtext, you would select the Object category, select the actual Pline object, and then select the Length property of the Pline. The Field is linked to the Pline object by an "object Id" , but unfortunately Data Extraction does not have access to the Id as far as I know.

You wouldn't necessarily want to use it anyway, since it's jibberish to most humans. That is why I suggested to include a "name" along with the length property via the Field , which could be separated perhaps by a unique character like a semi-colon or such. The MLeader or Mtext with the field and the name string would be what you would "extract". Of course, one of these "labels" would have to be added for each Pline, but you have to add something, no matter what.

I looked into doing the same thing just a few weeks ago. I was able to achieve this by adding the cable number to the 'Hyperlink' field on the polyline representing the cable. Just add it as the 'file or web page name'. Can Handles be included in a DataExtraction? That would give the OP a unique ID tying the extracted data back to the original pline.

I was looking for a field - any field - to use as a name. Can't believe I missed the hyperlink field. Maybe it didn't quite work for you, but I was able to customize the table using this hyperlink field to be exactly as I needed! Notice: updates available for Apache Log4j vulnerabilities.
