The extra load it places on your system could cause some problems though, such as reduced memory space and disk drive performance. However, there is another aspect to consider: there may be a few causes causing your PC to slow down, including but not limited to obsolete hardware and garbage files. Nonetheless, Norton might be a source of PC slowness at some time.
If you are using an older version of Norton, it may cause your PC to slow down over time. However, if you are using the latest version, it is very unlikely to cause this problem. First of all, make sure that you have an up-to-date version of Norton installed on your PC.
Older versions may cause problems with your computer's performance due to their outdated designs and bugs. If you are not sure whether or not your version is out of date, check for updates directly from Norton via the program's settings menu. Alternatively, you can wait for Norton to notify you when new software is available. You should also clear out your computer's cache periodically. Cache files contain copies of certain pages or programs that your browser previously accessed.
Once they are no longer needed, your browser will request these files from Norton instead of loading them from the original location online. This reduces waiting times for certain pages such as web searches and downloads.
Norton is a security suite that includes antivirus, spyware, and network intrusion detection capabilities. If they are installed on a less efficient machine, it will significantly slow down since all of the Norton apps will occupy a large portion of the computer's RAM. You should consider removing them if you're not using them.
While this was formerly true, it is no longer the case. Your antivirus program, on the other hand, will have an impact on the overall performance of your laptop. It's infuriating when you outfit your computer with security features, only for the performance to plummet.
However, these issues can be resolved by simply installing more memory or reducing the number of active programs running in the background. Norton's performance features, such as Optimize Disk, might also help to speed up your computer. Defragmenting your hard disk, consolidating vacant space , and improving computer speed are all benefits of disk optimization. They cause conflicts to be scanned or a large quantity of device memory to be used. In this scenario, Norton Safety may slow down system efficiency, and Norton may slow down your computer if another antivirus software application is running on your installed operating system.
Norton used to be garbage 5 to 10 years ago, however it has recently improved significantly. It is still not as good as the built-in Windows Defender in Windows 10, but it is a nice solution with strong features. The main advantage of Norton is its price: it is very affordable. I'm not sure whether you can get the program to run under your native language in SA.
Check the general settings in the program when you install it for that option. Its a free trial and will still run after that trial expires as a scanner which you can run manually. There isn't a purchase requirement. I'm interested to see what it finds if anything at all. I am still trying to send the sceershots, but I do not understand why it dose not work! This entry represents a software "crack" has made its way onto your system, representing possible malware infection.
How are you populating the startup entry list where the items were found? Using task manager, a utility program? You never replied to that question previously. Use the IMCE button which looks like the photo frame icon in the comment tool bar to select the file then click upload.
It will appear in the comments portion of the post you are creating. I believe that is where your misstep is taking place. Sorry for the delay, finally did it after compressing the files. I just did what you mentioned in your post on the 20 NOV, my Norton Utilities is not active to clear all these enteries:.
I am now realy confused of what we are doing here! I hope I did not do to many wrong things. The detected threat from Malwarebyt is now quarantined and I thought it is ok now. I do not understand the post with many link. You indeed are helping. What post with many links are you referring to that is confusing? Your screenshots came through as we wanted. I was just curious as to what program you are using to see all the startup entries on the system.
Thanks for sharing the info. So a small bit about what you are seeing. The first is when Windows the operating system takes over the boot processes and load so the computer becomes functional. The problem then becomes, what ISN'T legitimate. The entry that Malwarebytes is the one we are concerned with. Have MBAM remove that entry and restart the system. It will clear it from its history and the computer. Done deal. Some will start when Windows starts.
Windows will present a screen for you where you can select from 4 things. Click on Task Manager. See screenshot provided. The process tab has been selected for use. These are what I am seeing in my task manager on my Dell gaming rig at present. Nothing there isn't a legitimate process. They CAN indicate a source of malware and other issues. Open yours and watch for processes using CPU and other resources in an inappropriate manner.
Make a note of what those process names are and which resource is being abused. Lets us know what those are if anything is a concern on your end. How dose this work? I did the scan and was put in quarantine, is this what you mean, or should I do more?
I will be purchasing a new MS Office or and install it soon, where is a legitimate site I can find this for a good price? I don't want to interfere with SoulAsylum's troubleshooting, but if you use a free utility from Microsoft Sysinternals called Process Explorer it can give you additional information that isn't available with the built-in Windows Task Manager.
For example, when Process Explorer launches it can be configured to upload every process running on your computer to VirusTotal. Any suspicious or malicious process running on your system should have a poor score e. If you want to add additional columns to the Process Explorer interface e. Click through all the tabs e. Be sure you also check the applications that start automatically when you log in to your computer at Settings Apps Startup. Each application is rated high, medium or low according to the impact it has on system resources.
However, I still have a few programs that I want to keep but don't use on a regular basis e. If you right-click in the column headings you will see a list of additional columns e. If you aren't sure what Startup programs are safe to disable post a screenshot for SoulAsylum and they might be able to provide a few suggestions.
Once you've finished cleaning up all the unnecessary programs running on your computer I'd also recommend you post in a reputable free malware removal forum and have your computer checked by a trained malware removal specialist see my post in Greg Michalik's Possible Scam? Just note that most of these malware removal sites require that you uninstall all pirated software from your computer before they will diagnose your computer.
Also note that you should only post in one of these sites and follow their instructions until the malware removal specialist assigned to your case has confirmed that your system is free of malware. Thank you AS and Imacri. Rab60 By now this name should be corrected to Rab PS: I just want to mention that I did not willingly -installing pirated or "cracked" software-, I am not sure how it got there, a friend did this for me years ago. I found few free office, open office and libre office. I am not sure if they are safe and the download site is safe!
I live in Canada and found this product on sale at Amazon. I haven't tried OpenOffice or LibeOffice so I can't speak from personal experience, but I investigated a few free Office suites and thought LibreOffice was the better choice for me.
There's a good YouTube video at LibreOffice vs. It has very good support in "manual" form if you click on HELP on the toolbar at the top -- or use F1.
I've used the online version rather than install it and be nagged to update it probably. I'm not an expert on it and I just use it for the very occasional letter or more frequently I use its Spreadsheet to keep track of our monthly income and expenditure.
Thank you Imacri and huwyngr for the information. On the otherhand I did proceed with checking my startup applications on the Task Manager, and I was surprised: NO one startup program found all are disabled anyway there are few around 10!!
I will proceed in doing more checking on the WE. Thank you very much for all notes and hints. Do you mean that everything is disabled at Settings Apps Startup, including your Windows Security notification icon?
If you want to post a screenshot of the Startup tab of your Task Manager i. For example, I can see Mozilla Maintenance Service listed under "Necessary" so I'm guessing you have a Firefox browser installed, but there's nothing in those screenshots to tell us if services and executables for important programs like your Norton antivirus are launching correctly at boot-up.
Many Win 8. I'm not qualified to interpret these FRST diagnostic logs and these logs shouldn't be posted publicly in this Norton forum , but you might find some useful information there, including a list of all your installed programs, recent Event Log and System errors, etc. A trained malware removal specialist should be able to recognize any process, registry entry or startup task associated with malware in those diagnostic logs and, if necessary, provide a script that will automatically clean your machine.
Any logs posted in that Malwarebytes board can only be viewed by authorized users like the trained malware removal specialist assigned to your case.
This might be completely unrelated to your problem, but I just noticed that there are a few users posting in the Norton for Windows board about the Norton executable NortonSecurity. You might want to monitor the following threads just in case there's a bug in the latest version of Norton. For example, here's what the first few entries in my Processes tab typically looks like sorted by CPU Thank you for this very important hint , for me I used to do this, assuming when I start later it will do the changes anyway!
Rab During the discussion I had difficult time postin screen shots or images, is there any tutorial for this topic , so I can easily do it in the future? Going forward, here are four basic tips that might help if you ever suspect that your Norton antivirus is affecting computer performance. When compared to premium counterparts, the free versions will consume a lot of resources. It might be used to download antivirus ads or some other purposes.
Regardless the purpose, it can cause some issues as far as the user is concerned. So, it makes a lot more sense to upgrade to the premium version of antivirus program if you can. Have you installed another antivirus program along with Norton? Or, are you using a security package that is said to be an extra layer? Well, such programs can be harmful for the functioning of Norton Antivirus, and would probably cause extreme PC slow-downs. Keeping that in mind, you should see if there are any program that is incompatible with Norton.
And, you would surely see an upgrade in terms of speed. Judging by authentic statistics and our own experience, Norton would not slow down your computer. Check each of these possibilities and have a secure-and-performance-friendly PC of your own. We are the Team AI and we love to play with computers.
